If you need treatment for your Fresh Meadows cataracts, you will want to come into our vision practice, New York Cornea Consultants, to be treated by our expert ophthalmologist, Dr. Michael Ehrenhaus.
When a patient has Fresh Meadows cataracts they have a natural clouding in the lens of the eye. Generally, a patient will have cataracts in both eyes, however, usually only one eye is operated on at a time. When a patient has cataracts they may experience blurred vision, or problems driving at night or seeing in bright sunlight. The patient may also have generally blurred vision and have problems seeing a television or reading a book. It is impossible to determine whether or not a cataract will go on to cause total blindness; however, often times they do. Sometimes patients choose to have cataracts treated by simply updating their vision prescription to accommodate for the changes in their vision. However, there usually comes a time at which cataract surgery is needed in order to fully restore the patient’s vision.
Our ophthalmologist is able to perform cataract surgery on an outpatient basis, while the patient remains fully awake. The patient will need to have local anesthesia in the eye that is receiving cataract surgery. This surgery is extremely short, lasting about 15 minutes. During the Fresh Meadows cataract surgery, a tiny incision is made in the eye through which the damaged natural lenses is removed. Then a clear man-made lens is permanently inserted into the eye through the same incision. This new lens can be either single focus or multifocal. Most patients are able to drive without glasses after the surgery. When patients get multifocal IOLs, they are able to see clearly at several distances after the surgery. Recovery from the surgery is short and generally very comfortable for the patient.
